Police looking into rash of housebreaks
Thu Mar 05, 2009, 03:55 PM EST Chelmsford - The Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a recent string of housebreaks that have taken place in town over the last 10 days. The breaks, which began on Feb. 23, appear to be taking place during daytime hours, to homes that are unoccupied. In most cases, forced entry has been made through rear or side doors to the home. There is no specific area or street that has been identified, but rather, the breaks appear to be random and spread out throughout the town. The police department is actively investigating these housebreaks, and is asking all residents in town to be observant to suspicious persons or vehicles around vacant homes. Residents and others are urged to call the police department at 978-256-2521 to report any suspicious or unusual activity. Note: If anyone notices anything strange or items dumped in the woods please call me. sometimes items are left for later pickup or items not considered valuable are discarded in the open space lots off just off the trail. do not touch them just call me 978-273-1474 and we will come over and look at it and see if CPD might be interested. Its a long shot bit so was the Soxs winning the world series. also please lock you cars and report any "strange" cars.

The kick off meeting of the community garden is Feb 22 at 2pm at Jones Farm. This will be the first chance for people to see the layout, read the possible rules and regs and give input. All are welcome even if you do not plan to get a plot but just want to find out or help out. Sign up for the 31 plots is happening now at Jones Farm at a cost of $50 (all money will be applied back to the improvement of the garden and the property). The goal is to have this totally self-sufficient and even provide some upgrades for the site as a whole.

Well a bunch of us where on Red Wing Yesterday and started the clean up. What a mess. Looks like we will be back next week (Sunday as I have to burn the 10,000 braches fromthe ice storm in my own yard). We will need brush haulers, people who know how to use hand saws and those who have are good with Chain saws (Bring your own).
Thisis a great time as the ticks are not out and the groth is not out so we can move about the property easly. If you have any groups who want to do clean ups PLEASE e-mail me as we have a ton to do. Trash day comes early this weekPosted by: pstanway on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 02:39 PM

The flier that has arrived in your mail box about the Slow growth has my name as one of the signers. Be assured I did not sign this and in fact I was assured my name was NOT on the material. We do support preserving open space. They flier is offensive. You can disagree with someone but you should still show respect to person and the office they hold. I am not sure if I should use mine in the cat litter box or the bath room. We also sometimes disagree with the town but we would never stoop to this low level.
Note: Looks like the guys at SGI took the names of eveyone who has ever registered on the site and stuck it on the flier. Thus you see names like George ,Shawn ect.. So if you have ever been to the site I would contact them and have your name removed unless you want to end up on the next mailing. Be assued we will never use the names of people on this site because 1) Its not right 2) how can you confirm its really that person. Very Very sloppy work and a huge set back to those of us who think 40B needs to be updated. I thinh the phrase "What were they thinking" comes to mind. Now that this is over... back to open space work.

Seem like a bunch of kids had a party at the rocks at Thanksgiving and made a big mess. Most is under the snow so we will have to wait until spring to clear it up. If anyone knows anything please let me know. The wet lands across from the Quarry have also had snowmobiles in them. The water here is fast running and its only a matter of time before they drop into it. The access is the Rail Trail as it seems to be a race track and access way that runs across the town. So far we know that they have used to access the area next to Lewis and now the wetlands across from the Quarry. Red Wing has been spared and that might be because Town regulations allow for penalties if they are caught on Conservation Land. Hopeful the state will secure this but I am not holding my breath. The Snowmobile issues at the Bog have been dealt with and we should not see any more of them out there.

So looks like the plans for a long climb out and back have been shortened by the ice storm. A lots of trails are closed. We will still go as planned Feb 14th. crampons or yak tracks are a must. I dont think snow shoes will work. If you are interested drop me a line.

Well we have a busy week coming up. Some changes have also been posted in the calendar so this is always up to date. In a nut shell. Friday night snowshoe has been moved to Sat Nigh (so we can all go the to Winter fest Social). Two events on Sunday and next Tuesday we have our public meeting at ConCom. Looks like our funding for 09 will be slashed by 60% to $200 (25 cents per acres per year) or $3.00 for the upkeep of Red Wing all next year! We will be asking for donations and any amounts will help. Checks need to be made out to “Town of Chelmsford : Land maintenance Fund”. This fun is only accessible by us and we only spend it on items like wood, gas, nails and chainsaw blades. If you have old equipment (chain saw, tree trimmers, loppers, shovels, rakes wheel barrows) we will come by and pick them up. The Stewardship not only takes care of Open Space land but we support the Land Trust and are working very hard to build the two new community gardens. Times are hard and even if you have just one single shovel that is rusty and ugly we can 100% use it.
