Dedication Saturday Marks National Bike Month

CHELMSFORD, MA – May 11, 2009 – The streets of Chelmsford are not the only place to ride a bicycle in Chelmsford. Many of the town’s open space properties attract bike enthusiasts – those who like a bit of a challenge like rustic terrain, some hills and a few surprises.

On Saturday, May 16th, 4.5 miles of new technical bike trails will officially open at Russell Mill Reservation & Town Forest located at 100-101 Mill Road across from Raymond Road in Chelmsford. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting at 11:45 a.m., followed by free hot dogs, burgers, lemonade and other refreshments. Those who use the trail, or other volunteers, may also participate in a trail clean-up on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Well everyone ready? Hope to see everyone at White Wash day Sunday 12-4. If you want to come early and help set up or fix fences or cut brush feel free. Parking will be under the power lines. This DOES count as community service so make sure I get you name and address if you want a letter or bring your form. What better way to rack up 4 hour of service in the sun.

Any questions call me 978-273-1474 or Joanne 978-273-1473

Where: Crooked Spring Parking Lot (on Crooked Spring rd, where Jordan St. meets)
When: Saturday April 11th, 9:00am - We will take the piles of brush pulled out last weekend and burn them. We will be there most of the day so come out when you can!

It was determined in discussions with DPW that there was too much for it to be picked up as part of the 'Curbside Brush Pickup.

We will also be clearing the remaining bitter-sweet vines around the parking lot area. Bring gloves and any tools (cutters, saws, rakes) you have to help clean up.

Crime
Looks like the damage at Crooked Springs is now 10-15 trees and the new bridge... Reported it to both CPD and town. Hopefully they can bag them and with the new town rules they will be fined a LARGE amount of money ($100 for each tree or possibly as high as up to $300 for each tree). If anyone knows anything drop me a line.

Note: We will be removing all this Sunday 9am. please come by and help we have almost 30 trees to fix.

Ok so what’s up? Lots so much I have not been able to post. First off Russell Mill signage is almost complete thanks to about 1000 dollar donation of materials from New England Mountain Bike assoc and a three day work party. (we have photos in the gallery). Last Sundays work party at Community garden has been moved to this Sat at 9am (Hope to see a bunch of people there). Sunday is Palm Sunday and we will be doing trail clearing over at Red Wing (lots of downed trees).

Site Tour ride along AKA (10 by 10)

Posted by: pstanway on Friday, March 06, 2009 - 12:49 PM 305 Reads
Traffic
Every Sunday am from 7:30 till about 10 Paul and I check all the lots and some of the trails. We hit the 10 major spots in town and pick up a fair amount of trash. We also spot any trouble spots and report them. Paul can not do this for the next few month so If anyone want to join me for this drop me a line. Its a great way to learn about where all the sites are. We always swing by Jones Cafe and grab a coffee as part of the tour.

Interested? drop me a line at Phil@thechelmsfordian.com It does not have to be a commitment of every week and only once is fine. Paul and I have a lot of fun and laugh a lot and find some of the strangest things.

e-mail if you have any free time as we will be working all weekend and now the time has changed I will be out on sites from 4-7pm
