Dedication Saturday Marks National Bike Month

CHELMSFORD, MA – May 11, 2009 – The streets of Chelmsford are not the only place to ride a bicycle in Chelmsford. Many of the town’s open space properties attract bike enthusiasts – those who like a bit of a challenge like rustic terrain, some hills and a few surprises.

On Saturday, May 16th, 4.5 miles of new technical bike trails will officially open at Russell Mill Reservation & Town Forest located at 100-101 Mill Road across from Raymond Road in Chelmsford. The public is invited to a ribbon cutting at 11:45 a.m., followed by free hot dogs, burgers, lemonade and other refreshments. Those who use the trail, or other volunteers, may also participate in a trail clean-up on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Switchback at Crooked Spring has been completed. Thanks to Tim Forrest and the other Scouts for adding a much need switchback to the steep hill on Crooked Spring. This once dangerous hill now has a safe and great looking alternative. Look for pictures sometime this week in our Gallery. Special thanks to Brian of ConCom for helping to underwrite some of this personally and to the whole ConCom for making this possible.

I spoke to Tim Forest (Eagle Scout Candidate) this morning about the status of his project at Crooked Spring. The project of fixing the eroded hill has been approved and some funding has been provided. As it stands now he needs to raise an additional 300-400 for the project to move forward. If anyone knows a company that would like to help underwrite this or just someone who would like to make any kind of donation please contact me at Phil@thechelmsfordian.com . Once this money has been raised the project can move forward and the Trail system will be much improved.
